Description

Carbonara Pizza is the ultimate fusion of two Italian classics: the creamy, savory flavors of pasta carbonara paired with the crispy, comforting base of pizza. This dish replaces the traditional tomato sauce with a rich, egg-based cream, topped with crispy pancetta or Chicken, Pecorino Romano cheese, and a touch of black pepper. Perfect for pizza nights or special occasions, this modern twist on a timeless recipe is guaranteed to delight.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ball of Neapolitan-style pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup Pecorino Romano cheese, grated (plus extra for garnish)
  • 4 oz pancetta or Chicken, diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper (more for garnish)
  • Optional toppings: mushrooms, parsley, truffle oil, or Parmesan
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
  • Prepare the dough by rolling it out to your desired thickness. For an authentic feel, aim for a thin crust.
  • Cook the pancetta or Chicken: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the pancetta or Chicken until crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Make the carbonara sauce: Whisk together eggs, grated Pecorino Romano, and black pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  • Assemble the pizza: Place the rolled-out dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel. Spread the carbonara sauce evenly over the base.
  • Add the toppings: Scatter the crispy pancetta or Chicken evenly over the sauce. Add optional toppings like mushrooms or parsley if desired.
  • Bake the pizza: Transfer to the oven and bake for 10–12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crisp. For an authentic touch, crack a fresh egg onto the center of the pizza in the last 3 minutes of baking, ensuring the yolk stays slightly runny.
  • Finish and serve: Garnish the baked pizza with fresh parsley, additional Pecorino Romano, and a dash of black pepper. Drizzle with truffle oil for a gourmet touch if desired. Slice and enjoy!
